Malpeque

Malpeque is a target riding, where we can help elect a PR champion to the House of Commons.

Malpeque is held by Liberal MP Wayne Easter.

This is one the few ridings with truly local polling! We encourage you to look at this October 15 poll by Oracle below.

In 2019, the provincial PEI Green Party won 9 seats, becoming the official opposition. Most of the PEI provincial ridings that make up the federal riding of Malpeque elected a Green or had a strong showing for Greens provincially.

Fair Vote Canada is running online ads in this riding, reminding voters that Justin Trudeau broke his promise, and urging them to support candidates who are committed to getting proportional representation back on the table. Endorsed candidates: Anna Keenan (Green) and Craig Nash (NDP).

More Information about the candidates and riding

Malpeque has been held by the Liberals since 1988. and the Conservatives have always come in second. However, with the strong showing by the PEI Greens provincially and strong campaign by Anna Keenan, it is now Liberal-Green race.

Both the NDP and Greens have a commitment to proportional representation in their campaign platforms.

On proportional representation, Anna Keenan has been a longtime advocate. She was a lead organizer in the successful plebiscite in 2016 in which Mixed Member Proportional got 52% of the vote. She was an independent advertiser in the 2019 PEI referendum. She is currently on a leave of absence from Fair Vote Canada’s national council.
