While FVC congratulates CEO Marc Mayrand for establishing the advisory panel, it is
important that the scope of the panel’s discussions not be limited.
“The current voting system is unfair to many voters,” says Doug Bailie, president of Fair Vote Canada. “How much weight your vote carries depends not only on who you vote for, but where you vote.”
“All votes should count, no matter where or for whom they are cast,” says Bailie. “A fair vot-ing system would ensure voters actually get the representation they want. For example, in the 2011 election, over 7,000,000 votes didn’t elect anyone. It’s a simple democratic princi-ple on which our current voting system fails spectacularly election after election.”
Fair Vote Canada (FVC) is a grassroots, multi-partisan citizens’ campaign for voting system reform. FVC promotes the introduction of an element of proportional representation in elections at all levels of government and in civil society.
