Elmwood-Transcona is a target riding, where we can help elect a PR champion to the House of Commons.

Elmwood-Transcona is held by NDP MP Daniel Blaikie, the NDP’s Democratic Reform Critic. In 2015, Blaikie beat the Conservative candidate by only 61 votes.

According to 338canada.com, this riding is likely to return to the Conservatives.

Fair Vote Canada is running online ads in this riding, reminding voters that Justin Trudeau broke his promise, and urging them to support candidates who are committed to getting proportional representation back on the table. Endorsed candidates: Daniel Blaikie (NDP) and Kelly Manweiler (Green Party).

Elmwood-Transcona was held by the NDP from 1988-the present, with the exception of 2011-2015, when it was held by the Conservatives. Elmwood-Transcona has always been an NDP-Conservative race, with the Liberals usually a distant third, with 5-16% of the vote. In 2015 they were a strong third with 29.5% of the vote.

Both the NDP and Greens have a commitment to proportional representation in their campaign platforms.

On proportional representation, Daniel Blaikie has been a longtime advocate. Blaikie served on the federal Electoral Reform Committee, and spoke for PR several times in the House of Commons. Blaikie made the following video for the members at Fair Vote Canada’s Annual General Meeting on June 8, 2019:
