FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Fair Vote Canada volunteers will be out Friday March 3 from 4:30-6:30 PM and Saturday March 4 from 8-10 AM, in front of the Ontario Liberal Party AGM at the Hamilton Convention Centre.

They are urging the Ontario Liberal Party, including the party’s leadership candidates, to back a non-partisan Citizens’ Assembly on Electoral Reform.

“The electoral system is clearly failing Ontarians,” says Fair Vote Canada spokesperson Sharon Sommerville. “In the last election, a mere 17.7% of eligible voters handed the Conservatives a majority government with 100% of the power.”

“Only proportional representation can prevent this kind of undemocratic outcome – and deliver a legislature that reflects how Ontarians really voted.  Unfortunately, many politicians have a vested self-interest in keeping winner-take-all politics. It’s time for citizens to lead.”

The group will be handing out flyers about electoral reform and talking to convention attendees. At 10 AM on Saturday, they will be unfurling a giant banner.
