Fair Vote Canada, Canada’s grassroots multi-partisan citizens’ campaign for voting system reform, seeks to fill the position of Executive Director. As a country-wide, membership-based organization that conducts multiple concurrent campaigns, we seek an executive director with excellent volunteer coordination and mobilization skills. Office location is flexible and may be a home office.

Key Responsibilities

The Fair Vote ED will utilize both her/his own time (approximate percent of time stated below) and volunteer labour to:

Maintain current funding and engage new funding sources (including the labour movement) to maintain and enhance day-to-day Fair Vote operations and to set aside funds for planned future campaigns. (20%)

Maintain and expand Fair Vote’s current networks of contacts and supporters among municipal, provincial and federal legislators and key provincial and national opinion leaders (40%)

Maintain and enhance a national profile for Fair Vote Canada through both conventional and social media, maintain and expand Fair Vote’s national network of local chapters and action teams, work with strategic partners, and conduct public education through invited talks, support materials and displays and through Fair Vote Canada events (30%)

Manage FVC’s finances, and administer national donor, membership, volunteer and supporter lists for use by both the central organization and local organizers (10%)

Carry out campaigns and other strategic priorities identified by the 15-member Fair Vote Canada National Council

Knowledge and Experience:

A Fair Vote Canada Executive Director is expected to have an excellent understanding of the Canadian political system and the need for proportional representation; and prior experience in fundraising, administration, volunteer coordination and communications. Fluency in French will be a major asset. Proficiency in other languages with substantial groups of native speakers in Canada will also be viewed as an asset. The ED will have crisp, clear writing skills and strong verbal and computer skills, will inspire others, and possess a good sense of humor. The ED will have a proven track record either as a fundraiser or in managing fundraising. The ability to travel for extended periods to assist in local organizing is a non-essential asset for any applicant.

Salary Band:

The Executive Director position pays $46,000 to $56,000 per year with supplementary funding for travel and equipment. Performance is reviewed annually, concurrent with a salary and expense review. This is a full-time position, with flexible hours based on the organization’s and ED’s respective needs.
