The Waterloo Region Chapter of Fair Vote Canada attended the Waterloo No Prorogue Rally on 23 January 2010 hosted by Canadians Against Proroguing Parliament
People of Waterloo Region and surrounding area gathered at Waterloo Town Square to protest Prime Minister Harper's prorogation of parliament, and urged him to resume parliament now.
Fair Vote Canada did not organize or sponsor this rally, but the Fair Vote Canada Waterloo Region Chapter was there to provide information on Electoral Reform, Fair Voting, and regaining true democracy in Canada.
Since 19 April 2006 the Waterloo Region Chapter of Fair
Vote Canada has served Waterloo Region: Kitchener,
Waterloo, Cambridge, and the surrounding townships.
Residents of other nearby locations (such as Guelph)
are also welcome to participate in the Chapter's
activities.
You can contact the Waterloo Region Chapter of Fair
Vote Canada by e-mail at

We organize many chapter activities using the Internet.
The Waterloo Region Chapter has a page on Facebook and is “@fairvotewrc” on Identi.ca and Twitter.
There are also mailing lists for the Waterloo Region
Chapter that anyone can join. You don't need to
be affiliated with Fair Vote Canada to join these
lists!
Our low-volume, announcement-only list is called
"fvc-wat-announce". On this list we announce chapter
events, activities, and meetings. Everybody who wants
to keep informed of chapter activities should subscribe
to this list by visiting the fvc-wat-announce list signup page.
We also have a discussion list called
"fvc-wat-disc" for event planning and discussion
amongst participants. You want to subscribe to this
list if you are interested in helping organize Chapter
activities or discussing the state of Electoral Reform
in Waterloo. Subscribe by visiting the fvc-wat-disc list signup page.
CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS — FEDERAL ELECTION FAIR VOTING
CAMPAIGN
Another federal election is upon us and the executive
members of the Waterloo Region Fair Vote Canada Chapter
have developed an activity plan to raise awareness
about the need for electoral reform during the
campaign.
We are focusing on two tasks:
Sending letters to local newspapers linking
electoral reform to the federal election
Attending all candidates' debates to ask questions
about electoral reform and to distribute literature
Some good educational materials are available on the
government's Citizens'
Assembly Website. In particular, the "Classroom"
section contains a lot of good information.
TV Ontario is publishing Video and
Podcasts from the Citizens' Assembly plenary
sessions.
Here are some possible
activities the chapter might take on. They were
brainstormed during our April 2006 AGM.
The Working
Centre in downtown Kitchener provided us with
meeting space.
The good folks at CCj/Clearline donated
hosting for our mailing lists.
The University of Waterloo Conservatives
cosponsored the November 2, 2006 talk.
The University of Waterloo Young Liberals
cosponsored the November 2, 2006 talk.
The Waterloo Public
Interest Research Group provided resources to help
get this chapter started, sponsored our initial event
by Larry Gordon, and cosponsored the November 2, 2006
talk.
